Permission Slip Required for Kids to Recite Pledge of Allegiance

The principal of a public school in Rep. Barney Frank’s (D-Mass.) ultra-liberal district is “bringing back the Pledge of Allegiance” next month, but only those students whose parents sign their permission slips are allowed to honor America.

On Monday, Devotion Principal Gerardo J. Martinez sent a letter to parents telling them that the school in Brookline he would begin leading weekly recitations next month of the ‘controversial’ Pledge of Allegiance, reports WickedLocal.com.

“I urge you to have a conversation as a family to help your children understand why I will be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and to support them in feeling comfortable and confident in the decision on whether or not to participate,” Martinez said in the letter.

Parent Judi Puritz Cook said pledging allegiance to America and its flag is “uncomfortable” for herself and her two sons who have been taught to “think very carefully before making any promise.”

When Martinez begins to recite the Pledge of Allegiance next month, Cook said the school will no longer be “inclusive of everyone.”

“We’re celebrating diversity and including people… and then to be the one sitting there, waiting for the pledge to finish, [that] doesn’t feel inclusive,” she said. “Yeah, it’s weird. That’s the right word for it.”

Agree or disagree with providing children with the option of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in the classroom? Sound-off below.

Pro-Christmas Activist Wages War Against School District Grinches

"The Grinch that Stole Christmas isn't just a book and movie," says Brannon. "In many public schools, Christmas as we know it has been eradicated; erased – gone – eliminated."

"The Grinch that Stole Christmas isn't just a book and movie," says Brannon. "In many public schools, Christmas as we know it has been eradicated; erased – gone – eliminated."

When a public school district in Maine informed parents last month that “West African chants” would replace traditional ‘holiday’ songs during its annual “Winter General Music Festival,” one concerned father felt compelled to steal Christmas back from the Grinch.

According to Matthew Brannon, Maine School Administrative District #75 (MSAD 75) recently revised its ‘Holiday Policy‘ with the intent to promote “diversity” and “inclusiveness.” As a result, he says, the school board has “marginalize[d] our values.”

In an urgent effort to inform fellow parents “about what the [G]rinchs in our school system are doing to steal Christmas from our children – and to do something about it,” Brannon launched StolenChristmas.org. “Their policy requires diversity. To them that means every culture except American,” he says.

Thanks to Brannon’s wrestling with district administrators, ‘Jingle Bells’ was sung by children during the recent ‘music festival,’ but he noted that it was “such a last minute addition it never made it into the printed program. The kids had spent weeks practicing their African chants.”

Despite the district’s attempt to appease and, perhaps, silence a vocal and outraged Brannon with a single non-controversial holiday song, he remains committed to ensuring that “teaching and celebrating our traditional holidays” is not erased from the blackboard, silenced in the choir or eliminated from discussion in the classroom. He’s even proposed a revision to the already revised ‘Holiday Policy’ and is hoping district administrators will consider it during a future meeting.

“If this effort to marginalize our values angers you as much as it angers me, help me reverse this trend,” Brannon says. “Contact the MSAD 75 Superintendent of Schools, contact the Principals, contact the school board members. Let them know how you feel about their lack-of-Christmas Holiday Policy and demand that it be changed.”

If you share Brannon’s sentiments — “I’M MAD AS HELL about it and I’m not going to take it anymore” — contact MSAD 75 officials and let them know there’s more than one parent who will not tolerate the systematic eradication of Christmas by big government bureaucrats.

‘Tis the Season for Mandatory Kwanzaa in the Classroom

The Afro-centric 'holiday,' Kwanzaa, has become a sacred annual tradition that public schools are forcing kids of all races to celebrate and embrace, in the name of teaching 'tolerance' and 'diversity,' of course.

The Afro-centric 'holiday,' Kwanzaa, has become a sacred annual tradition that public schools are forcing kids of all races to celebrate and embrace, in the name of teaching 'tolerance' and 'diversity,' of course.

Yesterday, the Nanny State Liberation Front reported that Head Start classes in Minn. banned Santa Claus from visiting because he makes “immigrant” students feel ‘uncomfortable.’ Ironically, forcing school children of all races to “meditate on the awesome meaning of being African in the world” has become a sacred annual tradition in public schools across the nation.

Children at Falk Elementary School in Madison, Wisc., are currently being instructed to celebrate the seven principles of Kwanzaa, whether they or their parents like it or not. Although thirty-percent of the student population is white, teacher Kira Fobbs claims, “All the [Kwanzaa] principles we’re celebrating and teaching every day are universal.”

“Universal?” Tell that to Kwanzaa inventor Ron Karenga. He recently educated students at N.C. Central University on the principles of his ‘holiday,’ confirming that its message and target audience are anything but universal or diverse:

“We have the most ancient history in the world,” Karenga told students at the nation’s first public liberal arts college founded for African-Americans. “[Kwanzaa is a time] to meditate on the awesome meaning of being African in the world.”

Despite the Karenga’s own admission that his ‘holiday‘ is narrowly focused on celebrating African culture and heritage, Falk Elementary School teachers, ninety-four percent of which are white, say they incorporate the seven principles of Kwanzaa into lesson plans every day:

They form a circle as they dance, clap and chant in unison to a song about freedom. When the music ends, the children chatter with fresh energy for a moment, until teacher Kira Fobbs walks slowly to the center, demanding silence with her stare.

“I am somebody,” she calls out.

“I am somebody!” the students respond.

“I am capable and lovable,” she says and they repeat. “I am teachable.” “Therefore I can learn.” “I can do anything if I try.” “I’ll be the best that I can be …”

After the crescendo of affirmations, the students recite the Nguzo Saba, the seven principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity) and Imani (faith).

Finally the students at the school on Madison’s Southwest Side break into four groups, each named after an African tribe, and head to classrooms where they pursue projects and activities focused on the principles.

In the Ujaama classroom, student hear a folk tale about sharing, then paint penny banks to collect money for a library in Ghana. In the Ujima classroom, they work on a blanket and cards for the American Family Children’s Hospital. In the Imani group, students listen to a rap song by LL Cool J about never giving up.

Yet, when a minority of immigrant students complain about Santa Claus making them feel ‘uncomfortable’ because he is not part of their cultures or faiths, the public school system bends over backwards to make the majority shun their own cultural and religious traditions — for the sake of ‘diversity’ and ‘tolerance,’ of course.

Nowadays, all that remains in public school classrooms across the nation are images of snowmen, fir trees and wreaths during the so-called “Holiday Season” formerly known as “Christmas.” Thanks to Kwanzaa, school children can recite African chants and songs while affirming the principles of a cultural and ethnic ‘tradition’ that, for many, has absolutely no relevance or meaning to themselves and their families’ own cultural and ethnic heritage.

REST OF THE STORY: Anti-Happy Meal ‘Mom’ Is Also a Big Gov’t Bureaucrat

Money Parham is a proud foot soldier in the lunatic fringe's crusade to prohibit parents from determining what's best for their kids to eat. Send her an email: monet.parham-lee@cdph.ca.gov

Monet Parham is a proud foot soldier in big government's crusade to prohibit parents from determining what's best for their kids to eat. Send her an email: monet.parham-lee@cdph.ca.gov

While countless media outlets continue to herald a ‘mother of two children’ who jointly filed a class-action lawsuit against McDonald’s intended to force a nationwide ban on Happy Meal toys, one big fact is ominously missing from most, if not all, news stories: Monet Parham is also an overzealous food cop employed by the California Department of Public Health.

Overlawyered.com’s Walter Olsen writes in the NY Daily News that Parham is anything buy a “random (if oddly well-informed) California mom,” as reporters interviewing her insist. He and fellow blogger Ira Stoll reveal that Parham “works on a federally funded program that campaigns to exhort people to eat their vegetables and that sort of thing.”

Stoll notes that in wake of her participation in the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s lawsuit against McDonald’s, Parham’s name “has been scrubbed from the website of Champions for Change, the Network for a Healthy California.” Despite attempts to preserve her identity as just ‘some ordinary mom,’ Parham’s participation in so-called ‘health eating’ conferences is still in plain sight (be quick before that disappears, too).

“She presents herself as an ordinary mother. She is not,” Olsen says. “She is an advocate, and an employee of a California agency tasked with advocating the eating of vegetables. To the extent that Monet Parham-Lee has EVER taken her daughter to a McDonald’s, she should have known better.”

Here’s a look at how the major media outlets are describing Parham. Some reporters have clearly and cleverly been duped by Parham while other ‘journalists’ are complicit in portraying her as an innocent mom whose two young children have been victimized by a greedy corporate food giant and its mind-controlling two-cent trinkets:

  • California mom Monet Parham” — San Francisco Chronicle
  • A California mother” — Washington Post
  • [P]arent Monet Parham” — CNN
  • Monet Parham, a 41-year-old mother of two” — TIME
  • Co-plaintiff Monet Parham, a Sacramento, Calif., mother of two” — Chicago Tribune [via Salt Lake Tribune]
  • A California mother of two” — NPR
  • [A] Sacramento mother of two” — Los Angeles Times
  • A Sacramento mother” — Wall Street Journal
  • Monet Parham, a mother of two” — UPI
  • [S]ome poor patsy of a mother” — NY Post (Nice try, but you still got duped!)

Fear of Lawsuits Prompts Town to Ban Sledding

Remember when sledding with your kids used to be 'priceless' and nobody tried to get rich from a bump or a bruise?

Remember when sledding with your kids used to be 'priceless' and nobody tried to get rich from a bump or a bruise?

Children in one Pa. town can thank trial lawyers for melting their hopes of sledding down some of the best hills this winter. Beaver bureaucrats say the threat of frivolous lawsuits for sledding incidents has prompted its insurer to demand restrictions on the traditional wintertime activity, reports ClaimsJournal.com:

Under the new rules, sledding is banned in a park overlooking the Ohio River. Sledders can go down a marked course in another park, but can’t go all the way to the top of the hill.

The Beaver County Times reports the regulations include a ban on sledding after sunset and a helmet requirement for children under 12. Metal and plastic disc sleds are also banned.

Councilwoman Shirley Sayers says officials are trying to make the best of a bad situation. She says pending lawsuits against the borough for sledding incidents prompted its insurer’s concerns.

In related news, trial lawyers are anticipating a cold reception from the new Republican majority that will be installed in the U.S. House and state governments next month. The American Association for Justice sobbed that for at least the next two years, its members will have a hard time fleecing America:

“Opponents of the tort system have gained more power in the new Congress,” AAJ officials wrote in a recent alert to members. “This new clout means all of our issues will be under attack. Denying rights to the innocent victims of medical negligence is certain to be the first order of business when the 112th Congress convenes.”

    Can I get a “boo-hoo?”

VICTORY: Wisconsin City Rejects Ban on Happy Meal Toys

Ronald McDonald and his Happy Meal toys are free as a bird in Superior, Wis.

Ronald McDonald and his Happy Meal toys are free as a bird in Superior, Wis.

Last week, the Nanny State Liberation Front led the national media pack in reporting that a big government bureaucrat in Superior, Wis., was threatening to ban Happy Meal toys. Today, we’re pleased to announce that City Councilor Greg Mertzig’s proposal was handily defeated by a 7-to-1 vote on Tuesday night.

Mertzig’s toy-grabbing proposal was so lacking in support among local citizens that he had to bring in food activists from neighboring Duluth to make his case to an unimpressed city council, reports the Superior Telegram.

Councilor Tom Bridge noted that his office received plenty of calls from citizens supporting the toy ban, however, none of them lived in Superior. Aside from Mertzig and his friends in Duluth, he said, “No one from Superior was in support of it.”

Hats off to all who contacted Councilor Greg Mertzig and his colleagues, telling them to back-off and butt-out of decisions best left to parents.

Fat Police Are Triggering Eating Disorders in Kids

Kids have become obsessed with dieting to the point of nearly starving themselves to death, courtesy of America's crusade against childhood obesity.

Kids have become obsessed with dieting to the point of nearly starving themselves to death, courtesy of America's crusade against childhood obesity.

A new report published in the Journal of American Academy of Pediatrics links a 119-percent rise in hospitalizations for childhood eating disorders over the past decade to anti-obesity crusaders that are making kids too paranoid to eat anymore.

Dr. Tracie Pasold, director of the eating disorder clinic for Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Ark., said she can confirm the report’s findings that anorexia and bulimia are taking a rising toll on America’s school children ranging from grades K-12: Her clinic sees 8 new patients a week on average.

“It’s becoming an issue for them eight years old, nine years old, ten years old,” Pasold said. ”They’ve not been consuming enough calories to compensate for what they’re [sic] body needs based on energy levels and that sort of thing.”

Marketers are cashing-in on parents' paranoia about their kids becoming obese.

Marketers are cashing-in on parents' paranoia about their kids becoming obese.

In her expert opinion, Pasold believes America’s growing army of anti-obesity crusaders, from the White House to the Principal’s Office, are responsible for sparking eating disorders in school children. Kids are taking it upon themselves to excessively diet, avoid certain foods that have been demonized, and over-exercise because they’ve heard that’s what they need to do to be ‘healthy.’

And, what kid wouldn’t want to do whatever it takes to avoid bringing home a letter from school saying he or she is obese? Obesity has been declared a “disease” of “epidemic” proportions by bureaucrats, doctors, and the media, making kids go to extremes to avoid the devastating stigma it now carries.

School Kids Will Get Burnt by the Obamas’ Bake Sale Ban

Fundraisers like Denver Public Schools' "Bake Sale to Benefit Haiti" could soon be banned by President Obama.

Fundraisers like Denver Public Schools' "Bake Sale to Benefit Haiti" could soon be banned by President Obama.

Public school students that depend on proceeds from bake sales to cover the costs of their extracurricular activities will soon need to find another way to raise money. President Obama is expected to sign his wife’s cupcake-crushing Child Nutrition bill today, but a grassroots coalition is telling concerned citizen’s the war on bake sales isn’t over until the last cookie crumbles:

“Parents and local communities are outraged at the federal government’s usurpation of power,” says Orit Sklar, national spokeswoman of the consumer coalition My Food. My Choice!. “It represents everything the American people have been rejecting from Washington.”

Opponents of the bill cite major concerns with the overreach of government and the unfunded mandates placed on local communities and taxpayers. In protest, parents and students are participating in the inaugural ‘National Bake Sale Month.’

“As long as this is the law of the land, each December we’re going to come together to celebrate ‘National Bake Sale Month’ to highlight the absurdity of the law and share how school fundraisers help to provide the essentials our children need especially during tough economic times.”

Students, parents and teachers are being encouraged to post pictures of their bake sales on the My Food. My Choice! Facebook page or on Twitter by using the handle @MyFoodMyChoice [no harm in adding @NoNannyState] or hashtag #bakesale, and answer the question, “What does your bake sale pay for?”

Don't let the Obamas monopolize bake sales!

Don't let the Obamas monopolize bake sales!

Spread the word about this latest recipe for disaster cooked-up by the Obama Administration. Together with our allies at My Food. My Choice!, let’s show the Obamas how real “change” happens through embracing democracy, not fascism.

School District Forces Kindergartners to Embrace Homosexuality

“Now what you do in your home, that’s your home, but as far as me and mine, my children are not ready for this,” one parent told the Vallejo Board of Education. (Click image to watch video)

“Now what you do in your home, that’s your home, but as far as me and mine, my children are not ready for this,” one parent told the Vallejo Board of Education. (Click image to watch video)

Children as young as five years old are being forced by one Calif. school district to watch propaganda movies touting the virtues of homosexuality. Vallejo Unified School District officials say the so-called “anti-bullying” curriculum is mandatory for grades K-5 and parents can not opt-out their impressionable youngsters.

“We do not feel that this is an area that students can opt-out and we feel that this is an area that we do not have to give prior notification,” Superintendent Floyd Gonella told KNTV-11 after a recent school board hearing.

Young students whose parents might not have breached the topic of homosexuality on the home front will find themselves forcefully subjected to three movies “portraying toleration behavior” towards their homosexual schoolmates. “Despite parents’ resistance, officials say the viewings are non-negotiable and court-ordered,” reports Afro.com, an online news publication serving black Americans.

The events leading up to the school district imposing its mandatory anti-bullying, pro-homosexuality curriculum on young students occurred in 2009 when a lesbian Vallejo student and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued the district for discrimination and won. As a result, the district was ordered by the court to incorporate “anti-gay harassment and discrimination training into the school system’s curriculum resulting in the films.”

How do you feel about parents being denied the right to determine when and where their impressionable young children are introduced to homosexuality? Should these school officials express tolerance towards parents whose moral, religious and ethical beliefs conflict with homosexuality and the agenda of its proponents?

Share your thoughts below and with Vallejo Unified School District Superintendent Floyd Gonella:

No Child Left with a Bare Behind Act of 2010

Saggy pants might be outlawed in some cities, but this Halloween costume is perfectly legal in all 50 states.

Saggy pants might be outlawed in some cities, but this Halloween costume is perfectly legal in all 50 states.

Thanks to the generosity of a city commissioner in Albany, Ga., some school children will now be able to prevent their pants from falling down. The rest will have to buy their own belts or risk getting slapped with fines of up to $200.

Dougherty County Commissioner Jack Stone announced to the local media Monday that he donated 100 belts to students at Turner Elementary School. Unfortunately, more than 300 students reportedly told their teachers that they do not own any belts, thus leaving more than 200 of them helpless to keep their pants at waist level.

Stone’s charity work was performed as a follow-up act to the city’s new ordinance banning saggy pants. His parting gift to the media and students alike was a little ditty of wisdom he adapted from his father:

“When I was growing up on the farm my daddy always said when the weed comes up nip it in the bud when it’s young and you don’t have no problems, well if you start with these kids now and get them belts like they should have to hold up their pants then later on their pants won’t be on the ground.”

Does Jack Stone deserve a pat on the back or a swift kick in his properly fitted pants? Don’t tell us — tell Jack:
